Description of the assignment

Purpose of the job

To provide specialist advisory level support to the Specialist Managers, Heads of Discipline and the wider business coordinating communication and feedback.

Reports to

Head of Discipline

Key Accountabilities 

·           To assist the Head of SHE in;

Providing corporate SHE advice throughout the Company
Monitoring and reporting SHE performance;
Monitoring trends (internal and external) to ensure standards are upheld;
Identifying changes in relevant health and safety and environmental legislation, reviewing such changes and providing advice on the implementation of any necessary changes to company procedure and/or practice;
Compilation and maintenance of a register of legal and other requirements;
To secure compliance with health and safety, and environmental legislation, as appropriate to the company’s activities, including maintenance of the Nuvia SHE Management System;
Developing and implementing an audit and review programme for monitoring the implementation and effectiveness of the SHE Management System;
Maintaining and implementing the UNusualOcuRrence (UNOR) system;
Liaison with Site SHE Managers, Property Manager and Building Manager;
Conduct risk assessments (in particular return to work and display screen equipment)
Support SHE support to bid management teams
Provide information required for SSiP and Safe Contractor accreditation

Promote Health & Wellbeing Strategy

Support implementation of the company’s health and wellbeing strategy aligned to business and SHE (Safety, Health & Environment) objectives
Deliver campaigns (e.g. mental health awareness, fatigue management, occupational health risks, menopause, stress etc.)
Ensure alignment with standards such as ISO 45001 and company policies
In Practice (Construction-Specific Focus)

In construction environments, the role often emphasises:

Site presence and visible leadership
Managing transient workforce challenges
Addressing long hours, fatigue, and high-risk work environments
Integrating wellbeing into daily site operations—not just policies

Profile

Duties and Requirements

 

·           Development, management and maintenance of safety and environmental management system.

·           Management of company accident and incident reporting system.

·           Provision of safety and environmental advice.

·           Development and delivery of safety and environmental training programmes.

·           Maintenance of current awareness of safety and environmental developments

·           Managing arrangements for consultation with employees.

·           Development of company safety and environment initiatives

·           Write and review SHE standards and instructions

·           Compile and maintain information that may require web or library researching, gathering, compiling, and updating data and records

·           Perform other administrative duties as required to support the business and function of the department

·           Compose and/or prepare correspondence, reminders, promotional, forms, updates, manuals, and reports using appropriate Microsoft tools. Perform basic statistical calculations on data for reports and presentations

·           Undertake the relevant desk assessments and other inductions for new and existing individuals

·           Respond to and initiate enquiries (questions regarding purchasing, personnel, facilities, administration, specialised programs, etc.) Explain policies, answer questions, and independently resolve problems whenever feasible. 

·           Prepare presentation materials for use by others, editing content and adding appropriate graphic and design elements. These responsibilities may include creating basic content.

 

Occupational Skills and Knowledge

Engineering/Science or other relevant qualification (HNC, HND, Degree)
NEBOSH Certificate or working towards
Demonstrable experience in SHE on a variety of high hazard project
Project management and team leadership experience desirable
