Position – Package Manager – Waste Engineering

BPSS clearance will be required at basic level. Prior clearance will not be transferrable.
The role is accountable to the Head of Waste and Material Processing and acts as the waste engineering lead for assigned decommissioning packages, such as facilities, process systems or major plant items, ensuring that waste management requirements are integrated throughout the project lifecycle.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Lead waste engineering activities associated with assigned decommissioning packages, facilities, plant systems or major components throughout the project lifecycle.
- Implement waste management strategies to support decommissioning activities, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, environmental permits, Waste Acceptance Criteria (WAC) and Best Available Techniques (BAT).
- Prepare DQOs, WSAPs and supporting waste characterisation methodologies for review and approval by an appropriately qualified Radioactive Waste Adviser (RWA).
- Plan, coordinate and oversee waste characterisation campaigns, including sample collection, analysis, interpretation of results and production of technical reports.
- Develop waste inventories, waste forecasts and waste route assessments to support project planning and delivery.
- Define resource requirements necessary to deliver waste engineering activities and coordinate the deployment of internal specialists, framework contractors, analytical laboratories and waste service providers.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable safety, environmental and regulatory requirements.
- Support CDM compliance activities, ensuring waste management hazards, risks and control measures are appropriately identified, documented and managed throughout planning and execution.
- Engage with multidisciplinary project teams to ensure waste management requirements are integrated into decommissioning planning, engineering design, construction and execution activities.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders
- Support the development and implementation of waste treatment, processing, packaging, transport and disposal routes to achieve safe, compliant and cost-effective waste management outcomes.
- Coordinate with disposal facilities and waste service providers to ensure waste acceptance requirements are understood and incorporated into decommissioning and characterisation strategies.
- Support waste consignment activities through the preparation and review of technical documentation and supporting evidence.
- Support readiness reviews, package reviews and project gate reviews through the provision of waste engineering expertise and technical documentation.
