Description of the assignment

Main purpose of job

·            With support from SHE Manager(s), providing SHE advice to allocated project(s).

·            Monitoring and reporting SHE performance to Business Line(s) and Head of SHE via regular inspections.

·            Monitoring compliance via SHECC Lists to ensure process and procedures are being followed.

·            Liaise with corporate SHE Team to provide input into UNOR Review meetings and support SHE Manager in carrying out incident investigations.

·            Implement process/procedural changes as instructed by SHE Manager / Head of SHE.

·            Communicate SHE alerts / initiatives as part of project briefings / toolbox talks.

·            Produce or facilitate risk assessments with support from SHE Manager.

 
Position in organisation and key relationships

·            Reporting to the Head of SHE. Although in some instances may be Project / Site / Business Manager.

·            Providing authoritative advice project staff.

·            Through the Head of SHE, reporting performance to the company Senior Leadership Team.

·            Key relationships are with Head of SHE, SHE Managers, Project Manager, Project Teams, Client.

·            Formal and informal interactions with Trade Union Representatives

 

Profile

Scope of job

·            Provision of safety and environmental advice to projects.

·            Development and delivery of safety and environmental training to project teams.

·            Monitor safety inspections and the observations there from

·            Carrying out accident and incident investigation

·            Tracking actions arising from incident investigations.

·            Carrying out project safety audits and inspections

·            Member of any project/site specific Safety and Environment panels;

·            Provide project specific safety and environmental information for bids.

 

Trainee role requires regular contact with SHE manager as acting mentor.

 

Areas of development to be identified as part of SQEP Interview and reviewed on a quarterly basis with Head of SHE, mentor and Line Manager.

 

During development as a trainee, role to cover project only.  Once developed into SHE Manager role, scope will increase to regional projects.

 

Dimensions and limits of authority

Provision and support to projects with guidance from SHE Manager and Head of SHE.
Regular development reviews with Head of SHE, Project Manager and SHE Manager.
Willingness to develop to higher IOSH membership category.
Keen to develop to a SHE Manager in line with SQEP profile.
Maintain independence from the project and report unsafe situations / behaviours.
 

 
Qualifications

Engineering/Science qualification (HNC, HND, Degree) preferable but not required
NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate
Member of IOSH


Experience

SHE experience or equivalent required
Demonstrable experience of work on a construction site or similar environment
Experience working on the relevant project site will be taken into account (particularly for remote sites with specific customer requirements)
 

Attributes

Questioning attitude.
Able to challenge unsafe behaviours and situations and stop the job is necessary.
